Making Connecticut A Leader In Healthcare Reform
Before the close of the legislative session, the Connecticut General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in support of the Connecticut Healthcare Partnership Plan which will help thousands of people in Connecticut gain access to quality, affordable health care.
With health care premiums continually on the rise, the Connecticut Healthcare Partnership Plan promises to help the thousands of small businesses that have created over 90% of all new jobs in Connecticut over the last decade. As the economy struggles to recover, business owners and others have had to cancel or postpone purchasing health care insurance for themselves and their employees to stay afloat. In fact, statistics show that more than half of the 350,000 people in our state without health insurance are employees of small businesses.
The Connecticut Healthcare Partnership Plan is a comprehensive solution to this growing nationwide problem by allowing small businesses, non-profits, municipalities, and others to voluntarily buy into the state employees’ health insurance pool. Through this initiative, small business owners will save money on health care premiums while receiving quality, affordable health care.
President Obama has said time and time again that we have delayed health care reform for too long, and the cost is now breaking our economy. As Congress explores real solutions for reform on a national scale, our state has an opportunity to become a leader for other states across the nation.
Unfortunately, Governor Rell vetoed this legislation last year and may stand in the way of progress again. In recent weeks, her Republican colleagues also criticized the bill, calling it a step towards ‘European-style socialized medicine’.
When this bill crosses the Governor's desk, I am hopeful that she will show leadership and think carefully about the positive impact it will have on the economy and those in need across the state. I encourage you to contact the Governor at 860-566-4840 to register your support for this important initiative.
Make Connecticut a true leader for health care reform!
